Make Recruiting a Priority

It's too important to leave it to recruiters only.

💌 250 words ⌛ 1 minute

As a manager, at one point you will recruit new team members, by choice or accident. When the time comes don’t treat it as the recruiter’s duty, make it your number one priority to get a new team member.

Why it matters: Recruiting is THE chance to turn your team dynamics around. If your team consists of 5 employees, 1 employee leaves, and you recruit 1 new employee, you change 20% of the team - and you create 4 new relationships.

And this is only the obvious part.

Dig deeper:

  • Be hyper-aware about who you are looking for. While there is no perfect candidate, it’s required to make your recruiting a success.

  • New team members can be catalysts or blockers for change, be aware of that, and look into their past experiences (and their CV) and how they behaved when their company changed.

  • Systems theory says when one part of the system changes the whole system changes. Have you ever seen a team behave differently after one member left? I guess we all have seen that.

  • Are you looking for harmony or progress? Think about that when you are looking for a new teammate. Do you want to challenge the team or calm it down?

That’s it already for the first edition of the Mindful Manager Memo. The idea is to package one idea with lots of value into a small newsletter every week.

Let’s me know how I’ve done - and let’s connect on Twitter or LinkedIn.

See you there
